APC cancels Zamfara gov primaries

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cancelled the governorship primaries of Zamfara State held on Wednesday. The election was cancelled following different forms of electoral irregularities witnessed during the exercise on Wednesday. The party’s national headquarters had adopted option A4 in the direct election which started around 4pm due to incomplete and late arrival of election materials. But following pockets of violence and protests in some local governments and other electoral irregularities, like snatching of election materials and result sheets, the Professor Abubakar Faki-led APC Zamfara State Governorship Primaries Committee cancelled the primaries. Subsequently, the party’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena, said in a statement that its National Working Committee (NWC) has approved the cancellation of the governorship primaries. “A new date will be announced soonest. The NWC reiterates our commitment to free, fair and transparent primaries across the country,” he said. Nine aspirants are seeking the APC governorship ticket in the state in a bid to succeed the outgoing governor of the state and current Nigeria Governors Forum chairman, Abdulaziz Yari.
