Nigeria's first executive president Shehu Shagari is dead

The first executive president of Nigeria Shehu Shagari, is dead.

He was 93. Shagari was Nigeria’s president in the second Republic that started in 1979. He was reelected in 1983.

His demise was announced on twitter by his grandson, Bello Shagari.

Bello wrote, ”I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja.”

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal also confirmed the report on his Twitter handle.

He said: “I regret to Announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his Soul Rest in Peace.”
