CCT grants Onnoghen bail, adjoiurns trial

Trial of suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, has been adjourned to March 11 for hearing on all pending applications as the justice has been granted bail on self-recognition.

During his trial at the code of conduct tribunal, which held today (Friday), Justice Onnoghen pleaded not guilty to all six counts bordering on alleged failure to declare some of his assets to the code of conduct bureau.

His counsel had earlier asked the tribunal to order a discharge of the bench warrant issued for his arrest, a request which was granted.

Justice Onnoghen arrived the Tribunal in a convoy of five vehicles around 9:40am on Friday.

Tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar had on Wednesday ordered his arrest following his consistent absence from court to answer to the charges preferred against him.

The order of arrest was, however, not effected as he was said to have reached an agreement with the security agencies to voluntarily submit himself for Friday’s proceedings.
