Ahead of state elections, FG orders closure of Borders

The Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.), has ordered the closure of borders for the Saturday Governorship and State Assembly elections.

A press statement issued by the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, in Abuja on Thursday said that there would be restriction of movements across the Nigerian borders during the election on the days announced.

Babandede said this is with effect from Friday, March 8, at noon to Sunday, March 10, at noon.

“The public is to take note and ensure compliance,” Babandede said.

The governorship and State House of Assembly elections hold this Saturday, March 9, in 29 states of the country while 991 members of houses of assembly in all the states will be elected alongside six local government chairmen and 62 councillors in the FCT.
