BREAKING: INEC sets new date for inconclusive election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, March 9 to conduct polls in areas where the National Assembly elections were inconclusive, or cancelled last Saturday.

The electoral umpire said in a statement on Friday, signed by Festus Okoye, its National commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, that the decision was taken at the end of a meeting with Resident Electoeal Commissioners (RECs) on Thursday.

March 9 is the same date the commission fixed for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

The statement read in part, “Consequently, the meeting decided that supplementary elections will be conducted in all areas where elections did not take place and/or where returns could not be made on Saturday, March 9th, 2019, alongside governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.”
